“It is not life who will make you. It is you who will make life.”

by Emmanuel Rivas
(zamboanga city, zamboanga peninsula, philippines)

Emmanuel Rivas is my real name. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management at ZCATII. Before I graduated, I had started as a student of Associate in HRM course for two years and ladderized to continue my Bachelor Degree in BSHRM.

Maltdelita Rivas and Wilson Rivas Sr.,my parents that have given me an unfailing support and love to pursue my dreams to finish, are behind of my success in school.

I am the sixth brother among the seven siblings in our family. When I was in High School, I received with Honor like deportment awardee of the year.

I entered college with the interest to explore the industry in hospitality that improves the profitability of business by ensuring quality control and a pleasant experience for customers. Then will work with employees to provide a smoothly functioning system within the hotel or restaurant.I wanted to become manager that has supervisory, administrative and marketing skills, and has thorough understanding of finance management to operate the business effectively.

During College years, I enjoyed being a student of HRM then I realized that my allowance was not enough to provide my requirements, projects, reports in school then I decided to apply in a fast food chain like Jollibee. I was just wondering why there were so innumerable customers that kept on going in and out in Jollibee.

Jollibee is a big example that relates my course.
I applied in Jollibee Training Store in Pershing Zamboanga City last 2008. I was interviewed and asked “Why Jollibee?

“Laking Jollibee po ako Sir! and I believe that Jollibee is a marketing strategy that has evolved over the years.. I remember "langhap sarap”. This is what differentiated Jollibee from the other fast food chains.. They revolutionized the idea that We Pinoys don’t just consider how the food tasted but how good it smells... anything that smells nice would translate (if not most of the time) to something that tastes good...

Nowadays, Jollibee’s marketing strategy has changed... its idea now focuses on a child who is ‘laking Jollibee’ or translated to I grew up with this product.” I ended.

God’s will, I passed.

I was in Jollibee Camins as Dining Crew. My first day was filled with challenge and adjustment. My Trainer taught me the standards and how to live with dedication, passion and determination.
I became as what they call “Working Student”.

Mahirap talaga pala ipagsabay ang pag-aaral at pagtatrabaho. But this was not the reason for me to quit. There were times I was caught napping inside our class, coming late carrying my Jollibee uniform inside my bag then I had to rush myself to work at night.

Pinagpatuloy ko ang aking pagsisikap dahil tinatanim ko ngayon ang butil ng aking kinabukasan.

My adversity and struggle have paid off when I heard on stage during my graduation the most beautiful sound I have never heard before. EMMANUEL S. RIVAS. It is just three words but it meant four longer years of struggle and achievements that exceed the triumph of bliss and happiness.

My teacher said to me,”Emmanuel, Finally.”

I replied,”Yes Mam, Finally.”

Malaki ang ang aking pagsasalamat sa Team ng Jollibee na naging bahagi ng aking pagtatapos.

Now, I am looking forward working as a short term plans in Jollibee and abroad. My dream is to make my own name in Hotel Industry.
