Your Life is Your Story, Issue #225 – Your Favorite Month of the Year June 26, 2025 |
Greetings "Your past is your story up to now. The future is the story yet to come. The present is where you live with that experience, your hopes and your dreams." ![]() Your Life is Your Story Newsletter June 26, 2025 Your Life is Your Story, Issue #225 – Your Favorite Month of the Year From Tom Gilbert – Editor and Writer, www.your-life-your-story.com In this Issue: Opening remarks: We Belong Featured Article – The Favorite Month of the Year Featured Resource – Audivita – Audiobook Pros Opening Remarks: We Belong![]() As anyone can see who follows the news, or history for that matter, people tend to congregate in groups. Humanity tends to be very tribal. The challenge with this is that people tend to hang only with their own and become suspicious or even antagonistic of others. Divisiveness breeds paranoia. It is not healthy and it becomes dangerous. What I have discovered in my own journey, and it is certainly amplified by my belief that everyone has a story, is that stories can teach us much about our similarities and how we all crave some common things. Chief among them is the desire to love and be loved. And to belong. We all belong to the human race. Thank you so much for being part of the Your Life Is Your Story community. And if so, what are the reasons? For several years June has been my favorite month. The reasons for me include all the significant things that have happened in June for my personal life history. Also, I am a big fan of summer. June is the first true month of the summer, a time to slow down and enjoy the days, so what’s not to love? You might say the heat and humidity, but I easily dodge that issue. Okay, maybe not easily, but when it comes to temperatures I much prefer warm over cold.Apparently I am not the only one to think about their favorite month. According to some polls conducted by YouGov.com June tends to rank in the top 3 for the adults they polled. For writers, aspiring and experienced, there is National Writing Day on June 25. As stated on literacyhive.org it is an annual celebration of creative writing for young people. I was on the Greenpeace website and they are featuring climate and nature writers in honor of National Writing Day. Naturally any day that encourages and celebrates writers, particularly life story and memoir writers, resonates with me. It’s my favorite type of writing, although I have dabbled in fiction and I journal quite frequently. I Love BaseballI have always loved baseball, both playing and watching. When I was a kid June days were filled with bats, balls and gloves. I played little league baseball and later the older leagues, even a bit of high school ball. Too bad I wasn’t good enough to go pro because that would be a real dream job. Are you kidding me? Playing baseball as your occupation, what a thrill!I took up long distance running when I was in my fifties and my first half marathon was in San Diego on June 4, 2006. I ran both for the experience and also to raise money for cancer research through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training. I ran in memory of my brother in law who died from Leukemia when only 38. Plus, my mom had cancer in 2006 and passed about a week after I finished that half marathon. I was able to be with her and my family at that special time and I wrote about it with the article, Opening Death’s Door. Other June moments include a number of family birthdays and anniversaries. Some really good concerts and vacations. Also, I graduated high school on June 22, 1974 and seventeen years later I started my sobriety journey on that same calendar day, something that has continued one day at a time now for 34 years. Give some thought to your favorite month of the year and I encourage you to write about why that is. What are the reasons and special occasions that mark that month as significant in your life? Featured Resource: Audivita – Audiobook ProsIf you are an author or writing your own life story or memoir, keep in mind that audiobooks continue to grow in popularity.Janine Winters and her amazing story was written by me with Janine’s wonderful recollection of her journey. French Twist – A Tale of Travel, Testing and Triumph has been out for a year now and continues to receive strong reviews. You can find out more here. Janine wanted to also have an audiobook version of her memoir and with her wonderful french accent and ability to connect listeners with her riveting story I thought it a great idea. The challenge was who to do it with or how to get it all produced and to the public. Yes, a do it yourself approach is possible, but it can be a tough learning curve if you aren’t into recording and producing. With recommendations from others we decided on Audivita and they did a great job with a very professional approach. Mark was a wonderful guiding producer and audio engineer with Janine over the several sessions. They are true audio pros. We are anxiously awaiting the final product and you readers will be among the first to know when it is available. To discover more of what Audivita has to offer visit them here.
